The development of the Science 9 curriculum has been guided by the principles of learning:

1. Learning requires the active participation of the student.

2. People learn in a variety of ways and at different rates.

3. Learning is both an individual and a group process.

In addition to these three principles, this document recognizes that the classroom includes students of varied backgrounds, interests, abilities, and needs. Wherever appropriate for this curriculum, ways to meet these needs and to ensure equity and access for all learners have been integrated as much as possible into the learning outcomes, achievement indicators, and assessment activities.
